Jeff Wilkinson is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design where he holds a degree in Architecture and a Bachelor of Fine Arts. He has been a licensed professional architect in the State of New York since 1991.

Jeff Wilkinson, R.A. was formed in 1995 and is located in Beacon, New York. The firm has gained considerable expertise in the field of building renovation as well as interior detailing and residential design. Current projects include a new 5,000 s.f. timber frame residence in the Catskills, the renovation of several Main Street buildings in Beacon, NY, and the renovation of a Stanford White carriage house in Rhinebeck, NY.

From 1992 to 1994 Jeff Wilkinson served as Project Architect at Hudson Design in Cold Spring, NY. Projects included the design of a 10,000 square-foot theater and dormitory complex, and an 11,000 square-foot estate residence overlooking the Hudson River in Garrison, NY.

Wilkinson’s apprenticeship was served in New York and in Michigan. He worked as a lighting and furniture designer for Robert Stern Architects on several projects, including the Congregation Kol Israel Synagogue in Brooklyn, NY. While in Michigan he worked for Marc Rueter Architects on commercial and residential projects, including the design of a post-production film and video facility for Grace & Wild Studios.

Between 1989 and 1991 Jeff Wilkinson was Associate Editor at the Old-House Journal where he edited restoration articles and managed several departments including “Restoration Products”, and “Who They Were,” a biographical feature of notable American designers. His work at OHJ provided him an in-depth background into architectural restoration techniques.

Jeff Wilkinson is also a trained furniture designer and cabinetmaker. He has taught courses on furniture design and architectural woodworking at the New York School of Interior Design in Manhattan, as well as the technique of perspective drawing.

His illustrations have appeared in numerous publications, including The Naturally Elegant Home (Boston: Little-Brown, 1991), a portfolio of modern, environmentally sensitive houses; the New York Times Home Section; the Maine Antique Digest; and Practical Handbooks published by the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Other published work includes Architectural Digest (Feb. 2001) "A Colonial Revolution" pp. 198-205.

Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Mr. Wilkinson attended Cass Technical High School and graduated with honors from the Architecture and Civil Engineering Curriculum.

In addition to his art and architecture pursuits he has toured Europe and America as a professional musician and songwriter and has released three albums for Gadfly Records. In 1993 he received a grant from New York State to write and produce “The Hudson River in Song and Story”.

He served as Chairman of the Conservation Advisory Commission in Beacon from 1996-1998 and is currently a member of the City of Newburgh Planning Board. He is also a board member of the Newburgh Architectural Conservancy.

He resides in a historic house on Grand Street in Newburgh, NY, with his wife Natalie, a textile designer and weaver, and two daughters.
